3 MHz switching at 500 mA — inductor shrinks to 1 µH or less
The TPS62303DRCR is a synchronous step-down (buck) regulator from Texas Instruments that switches at 3 MHz and delivers up to 500 mA continuous output. At that frequency the inductor value drops into the sub-2.2 µH range, which lets you use a small 0805 or 0603 footprint coil — the whole power stage fits in roughly the same board area as the 10-VSON package itself. Input range spans 2.7 V to 6 V, covering a single-cell Li-ion battery (3.0 V to 4.2 V) or a regulated 5 V bus. The output is fixed at 1.8 V, so no feedback divider resistors are needed — one less pair of components and one less noise injection path.
Synchronous rectification saves the Schottky
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the external catch diode that a non-synchronous buck would need. That cuts BOM count and removes the diode's forward-voltage loss, which matters most at light loads where the diode would otherwise dominate efficiency.
The base product number TPS62303 covers multiple output-voltage variants in the same package, so if your rail voltage changes, the PCB layout stays the same.
