Fixed 1 V output, 500 mA in a 1.45×1 mm SON
The TPS62239DRYT is a synchronous step-down (buck) converter from Texas Instruments that delivers a fixed 1 V output at up to 500 mA from a 2.05 V to 6 V input rail. The 3 MHz switching frequency lets the designer use a small inductor — typically 1 µH or less — keeping the total solution footprint compact.
3 MHz switching enables small passives
At 3 MHz, the inductor value and output capacitor can be significantly smaller than what a 1 MHz or 500 kHz regulator would require. For a 500 mA rail, a 1 µH inductor and a 10 µF ceramic output cap are typical — both in 0603 or 0805 case sizes. The trade-off is slightly higher switching losses, but at 500 mA the efficiency is still competitive for a local point-of-load rail. The input voltage range from 2.05 V minimum to 6 V maximum covers single-cell Li-ion (3.0 V to 4.2 V) and regulated 3.3 V or 5 V buses. The 2.05 V minimum is low enough to run from a near-depleted Li-ion cell, which is useful in battery-powered portable equipment.
