Fixed 3V rail from Li-ion or 5V bus
The TPS62233DRYR is a 500 mA synchronous buck converter with a fixed 3V output, designed for systems that need a regulated 3V rail from a 2.05V to 6V input source. The 3 MHz switching frequency lets you use a small inductor — typically 1 µH to 2.2 µH — which shrinks the total solution footprint on a 6-SON (1.45x1) package.
3 MHz switching shrinks the inductor
At 3 MHz, the converter operates well above the AM band, so the inductor value and output capacitor can be roughly one-third the size of a 1 MHz design. The fixed 3V output eliminates the feedback resistor divider, saving two external resistors and one feedback-node noise source.
The synchronous rectifier improves efficiency at light load, but at 125°C junction the 500 mA output may need derating depending on PCB copper area — the 6-SON (1.45x1) package has a small thermal pad, so a 4-layer board with thermal vias is recommended for full current at high ambient.
