The TPS62230DRYT is a fixed 2.5 V output, 500 mA synchronous buck converter from Texas Instruments, switching at 3 MHz. It accepts an input from 2.05 V to 6 V, so it can run directly off a single Li-ion cell or a 3.3 V / 5 V rail.
The 6-SON package measures 1.45 mm × 1 mm — that is a tiny footprint. Without a solid ground plane, the 500 mA output at high ambient will push the junction toward the 125 °C limit.
