2.25 MHz switching — small inductor, tight ripple
The TPS62160DSGR is a synchronous step-down (buck) converter from TI's DCS-Control™ family, switching at 2.25 MHz.
Input range and adjustable output — where it fits
It accepts 3 V to 17 V input and delivers an adjustable output from 0.9 V up to 6 V. That 0.9 V floor is important — it can power 1.0 V and 1.2 V core rails for low-voltage logic. The 6 V ceiling means it is not a 12 V rail regulator; stay inside that envelope. Single positive output, 1 A continuous. Efficiency holds up well at light loads — DCS-Control™ architecture keeps quiescent current low.
8-WSON package — footprint and thermal reality
The part comes in an 8-WFDFN with exposed pad (2x2 mm body, supplier package 8-WSON). The datasheet layout recommendation calls for multiple vias under the pad to draw heat into the inner layers. Surface-mount only. The 2x2 mm footprint is tight for hand assembly; a reflow profile with a good solder paste stencil is the standard approach.
Temperature grade — industrial, not automotive
It is not AEC-Q100 qualified — if you need under-hood automotive or 125°C operation, look at the automotive-grade siblings in the same family.
TI lists the TPS62160DSGR as Active. No end-of-life notice on the horizon. The base product number is TPS62160; the DSGR suffix denotes the 8-WSON package and reel tape.
