2A at 2.5 MHz — the BOM-fit decision
The TPS62140RGTT is a synchronous buck regulator from TI's DCS-Control family, delivering a continuous 2 A output from a 3 V to 17 V input rail.
It comes in a 16-VFQFN with exposed pad (3x3 mm). That pad needs a solid thermal via pattern to the ground plane — without it, the 2 A continuous load pushes the junction above the 85 °C ambient ceiling. The synchronous rectifier keeps efficiency high enough that a standard 4-layer board with 1 oz copper handles the heat at full load.
