2 A from a 2x2 mm VQFN — thermal and layout reality
The TPS6209718RWKR is a fixed 1.8 V output, 2 A continuous-rated synchronous buck converter from TI's iDCS-Control family. The headline number is the 2 A output from an 11-VQFN-HR package measuring 2x2 mm — that power density forces the PCB copper area to do the thermal work.
Switching frequency: inductor sizing vs efficiency trade
The switching frequency spans 1.5 MHz to 2.5 MHz. At the high end you shrink the inductor to 1 µH or 0.47 µH class, saving board area at the cost of slightly higher switching losses. At 1.5 MHz the efficiency peaks, but the inductor grows. The iDCS-Control scheme keeps the loop stable across that range without external compensation — one fewer BOM line to qualify.
Input range and output — where it fits the rail budget
The fixed 1.8 V output is a common core or I/O supply for MCUs, FPGAs, and sensors.
TI lists the TPS6209718RWKR as Active.
