3 A in a 3x3 mm VQFN — thermal and layout gotchas
Without a low-thermal-resistance PCB layout, the 3 A rating derates well below 85°C ambient.
Fixed 2.5 V output — no adjustment path
The output is fixed at 2.5 V. The 2.5 V rail is common for powering analog front-ends, sensor bias, or low-voltage I/O banks that tolerate ±2% nominal.
2.8 MHz switching — inductor sizing and ripple trade-off
At 2.8 MHz the regulator can use a small inductor, typically 1.0 µH to 2.2 µH, keeping the total solution footprint compact. The trade-off is higher switching losses and a tighter layout requirement to keep the switch-node loop small — a 2.8 MHz edge couples into sensitive analog traces if the return path is not directly under the IC.
