3 A fixed-output buck in a 3x3 mm VQFN
The Texas Instruments TPS62091RGTR is a DCS-Control™ step-down buck regulator delivering a fixed 3.3 V output at up to 3 A from a 2.5 V to 6 V input rail. The 2.8 MHz switching frequency lets you use a 1 µH inductor and small ceramic caps, keeping the total solution footprint tight around the 16-VQFN (3x3 mm) package. The operating range covers -40 to 85 °C, which suits industrial control, telecom line cards, and battery-powered equipment where the 3 A rail powers an FPGA core or a set of sensors.
2.8 MHz switching — small inductor, tight layout
At 2.8 MHz the fundamental and its harmonics sit above the AM broadcast band, which simplifies EMI filtering in sensitive analog front-end designs. The high frequency also means the inductor value drops to the 1 µH range — a 2x2 mm shielded component handles the 3 A peak current without saturating. Layout needs the input cap placed within 2 mm of the VIN pin and the exposed pad stitched to the ground plane with at least four vias to carry the thermal load. The datasheet layout example shows a single-layer routing that fits on a 4-layer board with the regulator and passives occupying about 25 mm².

The base product number TPS62091 covers multiple fixed-output voltage options (1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V) in the same 16-VQFN footprint, so a voltage change during design is a one-component swap.
