3 A in a 2x2 mm VSON — what that buys the BOM
The TPS62086RLTR is a fixed 3.3 V output, 3 A synchronous step-down converter from Texas Instruments, using their DCS-Control™ topology. It fits into a 7-VSON-HR package measuring 2x2 mm — that current density matters when the board is tight and the load rail is a 3.3 V digital core or I/O bank. Input voltage range is 2.5 V to 6 V, so it runs from a single-cell Li-ion (3.6 V nominal) up to a regulated 5 V rail. The 2.4 MHz switching frequency lets you use a small inductor — typically 1 µH to 2.2 µH in the 0805 or 1210 footprint — and keeps the output ripple manageable without huge ceramic caps.
Temperature range and switching — layout and derating callouts
The fixed 3.3 V output simplifies the feedback loop — no resistor divider, no external compensation. The 2.4 MHz switching frequency pushes the fundamental harmonic above the AM band, which helps with EMI in sensitive receiver designs, but it also means the input capacitor needs low ESL; place a 10 µF X5R or X7R ceramic within 2 mm of the VIN pin.
