2 A, 3 MHz buck — the load and the loop
The TPS62065DSGT is a 2 A continuous-output synchronous buck converter from Texas Instruments, switching at 3 MHz. That switching frequency lets you use a 1 µH or smaller inductor and a 10 µF ceramic output cap — the whole supply fits in a footprint roughly 5 mm × 5 mm on a two-layer board. The output is adjustable from 0.8 V up to the input voltage, set by a resistor divider on the FB pin.
Synchronous rectification and light-load efficiency
The internal synchronous rectifier replaces the freewheeling diode — conduction loss at high current drops, and at light loads the device enters Power Save Mode, reducing switching frequency to maintain efficiency. For a sensor node that spends most of its time in a 10 mA–50 mA draw, this matters more than the 2 A peak rating. At 2 A continuous with 3.3 V in and 1.8 V out, the die temperature rise is about 40°C above ambient with a solid thermal via pattern.
