Fixed 1.5 V rail at 1.2 A
The TPS62042DGQR is a synchronous buck regulator from Texas Instruments that delivers a fixed 1.5 V output at up to 1.2 A from a 2.5 V to 6 V input rail. The fixed output voltage means no external feedback divider — two fewer resistors on the BOM and one less noise-injection point on a tight layout. The trade-off is that the rail is locked at 1.5 V; if the downstream load ever needs a different core voltage (e.g., 1.8 V or 3.3 V), this part cannot be trimmed.
Switching frequency and inductor selection
The 1.25 MHz switching rate allows the use of a small-value inductor — typically in the 4.7 µH to 10 µH range — and a ceramic output capacitor in the 10 µF to 22 µF class. The input voltage range of 2.5 V to 6 V covers common 3.3 V and 5 V rails, but the minimum 2.5 V means a 2.5 V rail itself leaves no headroom for dropout — the part will not regulate if the input sags below that threshold.
