Fixed 5V boost with 2.5A switch
The TPS613222ADBVT is a step-up (boost) regulator from Texas Instruments that delivers a fixed 5V output from input voltages as low as 0.9V and up to 5.5V. Synchronous rectification is built in, eliminating the external Schottky diode that older boost topologies require. This reduces component count and improves efficiency at moderate to heavy loads, especially when the output is close to the input voltage.
Switching frequency and temperature range
The switching frequency is programmable between 500 kHz and 2 MHz via an external resistor. A 500 kHz setting favours higher efficiency by minimising switching losses; 2 MHz pushes the switching harmonics above the AM radio band and shrinks the inductor and output capacitor footprint — useful in space-constrained designs. The SOT-23-5 package has a thermal resistance that limits continuous power dissipation — the 2.5A switch rating is a peak, not a continuous output current, and the actual thermal limit must be checked against the load, ambient temperature, and PCB copper area.
