Boost LED driver with 1.5A flash per channel
The TPS61311YFFT is a 3-output DC-DC boost regulator from Texas Instruments, designed for backlight and camera flash applications. Its step-up topology delivers up to 1.5A per channel in flash mode from a 2.5V to 5.5V supply. The 2MHz switching frequency keeps external inductor and capacitor values small, shrinking the footprint for compact camera modules or handheld devices. PWM dimming control is built in, giving the firmware team direct brightness adjustment without an external DAC. The output voltage range spans 2.5V to 5.7V, covering series LED strings common in small displays and flash arrays.
Current rating and thermal budget for flash pulses
The 1.5A flash current per channel is the headline number, but the real design constraint is the junction temperature during repeated flash bursts. With three outputs, the total flash power can reach 25.5W (3 × 1.5A × 5.7V) in short pulses. The internal switch handles the current, but the inductor saturation rating and the output capacitor ripple current must be sized for the peak, not the average. A 2MHz switching frequency means the inductor value is typically 1µH to 2.2µH — check the DC resistance for I²R loss at 1.5A.
The part is ROHS3 compliant. The 20-DSBGA package (0.5mm pitch) requires a solder paste stencil with tight aperture control — the rework lab should have a hot-air profile for BGA reball if needed.
