Boost regulator with I²C dimming for camera flash
The Texas Instruments TPS61300YFFT is a step-up (boost) DC DC regulator designed specifically for camera flash applications. It integrates three current-sink outputs, each capable of 400 mA continuous or 800 mA during the flash pulse, and uses an I²C interface for precise dimming control. The 1.92 MHz switching frequency allows the use of small external inductors and capacitors, which is essential for the tight PCB real estate inside a camera module or handheld device. The output is regulated to 5.7 V, matching the forward-voltage requirement of a typical series LED string.
Three-channel current sink and I²C bus
With three independent outputs, the TPS61300YFFT can drive a multi-LED flash array or separate flash and torch LEDs. The I²C dimming interface gives the host processor fine-grained control over each channel's current level, enabling pre-flash metering, exposure sequencing, and video light brightness adjustment without additional PWM pins. The device includes internal switches, so no external MOSFET is needed for the boost stage.
