Boost regulator with a 3 A switch in a 1.67 mm² footprint
The TPS61281DYFFT is a step-up boost regulator from Texas Instruments, built around a 3 A integrated switch. That switch current rating sets the practical output power ceiling: with a 3.3 V input you can deliver roughly 2.5 A at 3.6 V before the switch hits its limit, assuming typical efficiency. The 2.3 MHz switching frequency keeps the inductor small — a 1 µH or 2.2 µH shielded part usually fits — and pushes the ripple above the audio band.
Programmable output from 3.15 V to 4.4 V
Output voltage is programmable between a 3.15 V minimum and a 4.4 V maximum. The input range spans 2.3 V to 4.85 V, which covers single-cell Li-ion, two-cell alkaline, or a 3.3 V rail that needs a clean boost. Synchronous rectification is built in — no external Schottky diode needed, which saves board area and keeps the efficiency curve flatter across load.
