Fixed 5V rail from a 2.3V–5.5V input
The TPS61240YFFT is a step-up (boost) DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments that delivers a regulated fixed 5V output from an input voltage as low as 2.3V up to 5.5V. The synchronous rectifier improves efficiency at moderate loads, and the single positive output is set at 5V with no external divider resistors needed.
What the 500 mA switch limit means for your load budget
The 500 mA switch current limit is the peak current the internal power FET can handle during each switching cycle. For a boost converter, the output current capability depends on the input-to-output voltage ratio: at 5V output from a 3.3V input, expect around 300–350 mA continuous output before the switch hits its limit. If your load draws more than that, you either step up to a higher-current boost or add a second stage. The 3.5 MHz switching frequency lets you use a 1 µH inductor and a 4.7 µF output capacitor, keeping the total solution area under 15 mm².
