Product details

8-channel boost regulator for LCD backlight

The TPS61185RGET is a step-up (boost) DC-DC regulator with eight regulated current sinks, each delivering up to 25 mA, and a maximum output voltage of 38 V. Brightness control is handled through PWM dimming, and the switching frequency can be set between 600 kHz and 2 MHz, letting the designer optimise between inductor physical size and switching losses. The internal power switch is included, so the external BOM stays compact.

The input supply range spans 4.2 V to 24 V, covering single-cell Li-ion through industrial 24 V rails. The 24-VFQFN package with exposed pad (4x4 mm body) requires a thermal land pattern on the PCB to conduct heat away from the die.

Frequently asked questions

Is TPS61185RGET compatible with 3.3V logic?

The PWM dimming input and enable pin thresholds are referenced to the device supply; with a minimum supply of 4.2 V, a 3.3 V logic high may not reliably trigger the input thresholds. Level-shifting or a pull-up to the input rail is recommended when driving from a 3.3 V controller.
