3A switch, boost/flyback/SEPIC — one regulator for multiple topologies
The TPS61175PWPR is a current-mode step-up regulator from Texas Instruments that handles boost, flyback, and SEPIC topologies with a single 3A internal switch. The adjustable output goes up to 38V from an input range of 2.9V to 18V, covering battery-powered gear, multi-rail industrial supplies, and isolated flyback rails.
Switching frequency: inductor size vs efficiency trade-off
At the low end you get better efficiency and larger inductors; at the high end the inductor shrinks but switching losses climb. No synchronous rectifier — the external Schottky diode handles the catch, so the bill-of-materials is straightforward but the diode's forward drop matters at high duty cycles.
