Boost regulator for single-string LED backlight
The TPS61161DRVTG4 is a Texas Instruments DC-DC boost regulator designed to drive a single LED string for backlight applications. It integrates the switching FET internally and delivers up to 38 V at the output, which is enough to power a series string of 8 to 10 white LEDs depending on forward voltage. The part supports PWM dimming directly on the control pin, giving the designer a straightforward way to adjust backlight brightness without an external analog dimming circuit.
Switching frequency and inductor sizing
The boost converter runs at a fixed 600 kHz switching frequency. This is a middle-of-the-road choice — high enough to keep the inductor small (typically 10 µH to 22 µH), but not so high that switching losses dominate at light load. Plan the output capacitor and loop compensation around this frequency.
Housed in a 6-WDFN Exposed Pad package (6-WSON 2x2 mm), the part is a surface-mount device.
