Boost regulator for dual-string backlight
It integrates two regulated current sinks, each rated for 35 mA, and delivers a boosted output up to 27 V — enough headroom for two series strings of 6 to 8 white LEDs each, depending on forward voltage. PWM dimming input is built in, so brightness control comes straight from the system processor or a PWM source without an external DAC or filter.
Switching frequency and inductor choice
The 1.2 MHz switching frequency lets you use a small, low-profile inductor — typically 4.7 µH to 10 µH — which keeps the total solution footprint tight. That same frequency pushes the switching noise above the audio band, so no audible whine from the inductor or ceramic output caps.
Input supply range is 2.5 V to 6 V, covering single-cell Li-Ion (3.6 V nominal) through 5 V USB rails.
The small package suits space-constrained portable or handheld designs, but the exposed pad means the reflow profile and solder paste coverage under the pad matter for thermal performance — no lab bench, no problem, but a decent hot-air station gets it off if you need to swap it in the field.
