2A switch, fixed 5V output — sizing the power rail
The TPS61092RSAR is a Texas Instruments synchronous boost converter that delivers a fixed 5V output from an input range of 1.8V to 5.5V. The integrated switch is rated for 2A, which sets the practical output current ceiling — at 5V out from a 3.3V input, the switch current limit allows roughly 1.2A continuous output before hitting the 2A switch peak, depending on inductor ripple and efficiency. This part suits single-cell Li-ion to 5V USB rails, 2- or 3-cell alkaline boost, or 3.3V to 5V point-of-load conversion in portable and industrial gear.
Synchronous rectification and switching frequency
Synchronous rectification replaces the external Schottky diode with a second internal FET, improving efficiency by 3–5% at moderate loads compared to a diode-based boost. The 600kHz switching frequency is a practical middle ground — it keeps the inductor small (typically 4.7 µH to 10 µH) while staying below the 1 MHz band where switching losses start to dominate in a 2A boost.
It does not carry an AEC-Q100 automotive qualification, so it is not specified for under-hood or chassis-mounted automotive applications. For a 5V rail in a factory sensor node or a battery-powered handheld instrument, the temperature margin is adequate.
