Why the 3.2A switch current matters for your boost rail
The TPS61087DSCR is a step-up (boost) converter with a 3.2A internal switch — that's the peak current the inductor sees, not the output current. For a 5V-to-12V conversion at 85% efficiency, that switch current supports roughly 800 mA output before hitting the limit. The 650 kHz and 1.2 MHz switching options let you choose: lower frequency for better efficiency (less switching loss), higher frequency for a smaller inductor (faster transient response).
Output voltage range and temperature grade
Output is adjustable from a 3V minimum to 18.5V maximum — that covers 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, and 15V rails from a single Li-ion cell (2.5V to 6V input). No synchronous rectifier — the external Schottky diode carries the output current; pick one with a low Vf for the load current to keep efficiency up.
Package, footprint, and thermal path
Surface-mount only; no through-hole variant exists.
