Automotive-grade boost converter with a 2A integrated switch
The Texas Instruments TPS61085ATDGKRQ1 is an automotive-qualified (AEC-Q100) step-up DC-DC converter built around a 2A integrated switch. It accepts an input from 2.3V to 6V and delivers an adjustable output up to 18.5V, making it a fit for powering displays, sensor bias rails, and auxiliary supplies in vehicle electronics.
Pin-selectable switching frequency: 650 kHz or 1.2 MHz
A single pin selects between 650 kHz and 1.2 MHz switching frequency. At 1.2 MHz the converter runs a smaller inductor and ceramic output capacitor, saving board area. Dropping to 650 kHz improves efficiency by reducing switching losses — useful when the load current is light or the thermal budget is tight. The part does not include a synchronous rectifier, so the external Schottky diode must handle the peak inductor current plus a margin for the output short-circuit condition. The 2A switch rating sets the practical output current ceiling at roughly 1.5A for a 5V output from a 3.3V rail, depending on the inductor and diode chosen.
