Boost regulator for single-string LED backlight
Output ceiling and current budget
The regulated output sits at 16.9 V, which drives up to five white LEDs in series (typical Vf ~3.2 V each) with headroom for the sense resistor. Per-channel current is rated at 60 mA — that is the continuous limit through the integrated switch; the actual LED current is set by the external sense resistor, so the designer chooses the brightness point below that ceiling. The 1.8 V to 6 V supply input range covers single-cell Li-ion (3.6 V nominal) and 5 V USB rails alike.
Housed in an 8-VDFN exposed pad package (3×3 mm body, SON footprint), the part relies on the exposed thermal pad for heat sinking. Without that thermal relief, the 60 mA output at high ambient (85°C) pushes the junction near the limit.
