Fixed 5V boost with 3.6A switch — the load-fit decision
The TPS61032PWPR is a step-up (boost) converter that delivers a fixed 5V output. The 3.6A switch current rating is the ceiling for the inductor peak current — not the continuous output current. For a 5V rail, the usable load current depends on input voltage and efficiency; at 3.3V in, expect roughly 2A output before the switch current limit is reached. The fixed output means this part cannot be adjusted to 3.3V or 12V — it is a 5V-only rail. Input range spans 1.8V to 5.5V, so a single Li-Ion cell (3.0V–4.2V) or two alkaline cells (1.8V–3.0V) can feed it. The 600kHz switching frequency is a middle ground — high enough to keep inductor size small, low enough to avoid excessive switching losses in the 16-HTSSOP package.
Industrial temp grade and synchronous rectification
A 2-layer board with a solid ground pour under the pad is the minimum; 4-layer boards with a dedicated thermal via array improve heat spreading.
