3.6 A switch current — sizing the boost for the load
The TPS61030PWPRG4 is a Texas Instruments step-up (boost) converter with a 3.6 A integrated switch, a 600 kHz switching frequency, and synchronous rectification. The 3.6 A switch rating is the ceiling for the inductor peak current — the actual output current the converter can deliver depends on the input-to-output voltage ratio and the inductor ripple. For a typical 3.3 V to 5 V conversion, this part can supply over 2 A continuous, which covers most USB-powered peripherals, battery-backed rails, and portable instrument supplies.

For the 3.6 A switch to deliver full rated current without hitting thermal shutdown, the PCB layout must solder the pad to a copper plane — a 1-square-inch pour on the bottom layer is a reasonable starting point.
