Boost converter for single-cell battery systems
The Texas Instruments TPS61012DGS is a fixed-output step-up (boost) DC-DC converter designed to generate a regulated 1.8 V rail from a low-voltage input source. At 1.8 V out from a 1.2 V input, the converter can deliver roughly 200–250 mA to the load before the switch current limit is reached, depending on inductor selection and efficiency.
Synchronous rectification and temperature range
The TPS61012DGS integrates a synchronous rectifier, which replaces the usual boost diode with a low-Rds(on) FET. This improves efficiency at light loads and at low output voltages — exactly where a diode's forward drop would eat into the headroom.
Housed in a 10-pin VSSOP (MSOP-10) package with 0.50 mm pitch, the TPS61012DGS requires a four-layer PCB for proper thermal management and signal routing. The small footprint suits space-constrained designs like wireless sensor nodes, handheld meters, and IoT edge devices.
