For a typical 3V output from a 1.2V input, that translates to roughly 400–500 mA output current before the switch current limit is hit — enough for a small MCU plus a few peripherals. The 500 kHz switching frequency keeps the inductor in the 4.7 µH to 10 µH range, which fits the 10-VSSOP footprint without requiring a tall, high-current coil.
