Boost converter for single-cell battery designs
The TPS61002DGSG4 is a fixed-output step-up (boost) DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments, designed to generate a regulated 1.8V rail from a single-cell alkaline or NiMH battery that can drop as low as 0.8V. It integrates a 1.3A switch and switches at 500kHz, allowing small external inductors and capacitors.
With an input range from 0.8V to 1.8V, this converter works directly from a single alkaline cell (nominal 1.5V) down to its end-of-life voltage, or from a single NiMH cell (nominal 1.2V). The fixed 1.8V output is set internally — no external resistor divider needed, which saves two components and one feedback pin. The 1.3A switch current limits the maximum output current to roughly 700 mA at 1.8V from a 1.2V input, assuming typical efficiency — enough for a sensor node, Bluetooth module, or small microcontroller.
Housed in a 10-VSSOP (also described as 10-TFSOP/MSOP, 3.00mm width) surface-mount package, supplied in Tube.
