Charge-pump LED driver for small backlight panels
The TPS60231RGTT is a three-output switched-capacitor (charge-pump) LED driver from Texas Instruments, built to drive backlight strings in small- to medium-sized LCD panels. It delivers up to 25 mA per channel at a regulated 5.5 V output, with PWM dimming on the control pin for brightness adjustment. The charge-pump topology means no external inductor — just a few ceramic capacitors — which keeps the BOM compact and the board profile low. The part operates from a 2.7 V to 6.5 V supply rail. Internal switches handle the charge transfer, so no external MOSFET is needed. The 1 MHz switching frequency keeps the flying capacitors small and pushes ripple above the audio band.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -40°C to 85°C ambient, the TPS60231RGTT covers industrial and commercial environments — think outdoor signage, point-of-sale displays, or medical panel backlights. It is not specified for extended automotive under-hood use (no AEC-Q100 in the record), but the range is fine for cabin-mounted displays in non-automotive-grade systems.
Lifecycle and sourcing
ROHS3 compliant.
