2A step-down in SOT-23-8 — parametric fit for 5V and 12V rails
The TPS562210ADDFT is a 2A adjustable-output synchronous buck converter from Texas Instruments' D-CAP2™ and Eco-Mode™ series. It accepts a 4.5V to 17V input range, making it a direct fit for regulated 5V and 12V intermediate buses in point-of-load designs. The 650 kHz switching frequency keeps the inductor and output capacitor small enough for the SOT-23-8 footprint without pushing switching losses too high for the 85°C ambient ceiling.
Synchronous rectification and D-CAP2 control — efficiency and transient response
The integrated synchronous rectifier eliminates the external Schottky diode, improving efficiency at moderate to full loads — a meaningful gain in a 2A design where the low-side FET's Rds(on) replaces the diode forward drop. D-CAP2™ control provides fast transient response without external compensation: the output voltage recovers from a 1A load step within a few switching cycles, which simplifies the BOM and loop-stabilisation effort for the board designer. The adjustable output range spans 0.76V to 7V, set by a resistor divider on the FB pin. The 650 kHz switching frequency is a middle ground — high enough to keep the inductor below 4.7 µH, low enough to avoid excessive gate-drive losses in the 2A FETs.
Active lifecycle, ROHS3 — no LTB pressure, straightforward supply
The SOT-23-8 (TSOT-23-8) package has a 0.65 mm pitch and a 2.9×2.8 mm body — a 2-layer board with a solid ground pour under the thermal pad handles the 2A current without thermal issues, provided the copper area follows the datasheet layout guide.
