6A fixed-output buck in a PowerTSSOP
The TPS54612PWPR is a Texas Instruments SWIFT™ series step-down (buck) regulator delivering a fixed 1.2V output at up to 6A continuous. Input range spans 3V to 6V, making it a direct fit for 5V or 3.3V intermediate rails in a point-of-load design.
Switching frequency and thermal range
Switching frequency is pin-strapped to either 350 kHz or 550 kHz — the lower setting reduces switching losses at light load, the higher one shrinks the inductor footprint. Integrated synchronous rectifier eliminates the external Schottky diode that a non-synchronous buck would need, saving a component and reducing the thermal load on the PCB.
28-HTSSOP package — what the board needs
The 28-PowerTSSOP (HTSSOP) has an exposed thermal pad on the bottom. The 4.40 mm body width means the pad sits on a standard 0.65 mm pitch leadframe; layout guidelines from TI recommend a 2.8×4.4 mm pad area with at least four vias into the ground plane.
RoHS3 compliant, no exemptions listed.
