3 A buck converter with 36 V input ceiling
The TPS5430DDAR is a 3 A step-down (buck) switching regulator from Texas Instruments, designed to deliver an adjustable output from a 5.5 V to 36 V input rail. The single output is adjustable down to 1.221 V and up to 32.04 V.
Industrial temperature grade and thermal package
This is a non-synchronous (no synchronous rectifier) buck, so an external Schottky catch diode is required. The 500 kHz switching frequency means the inductor value will typically fall in the 10 µH to 47 µH range for most output voltages. The adjustable output uses a resistor divider from the output to the FB pin — the 1.221 V internal reference sets the lower bound. The 3 A continuous output rating is the practical limit; peak current during start-up or transient load steps will be higher, so the inductor saturation current should be sized for at least 4 A.
