LED driver selection note
The TPS54201DDCT: The integrated switch and synchronous rectifier keep the external BOM to the inductor, input/output caps, and a single sense resistor — no external catch diode or compensation network. PWM dimming is handled directly on the EN pin, allowing the LED current to be pulsed at the application's chosen frequency and duty cycle. The 600 kHz switching frequency keeps the inductor physically small — a 10 µH to 22 µH shielded inductor in the 4x4 mm footprint is typical for a 1 A LED string.
Output voltage ceiling and LED string count
The output can regulate up to 28 V, which sets the maximum series LED string voltage. For a typical 3 V white LED, that is nine in series before the headroom to the 28 V ceiling disappears. The 1.5 A current limit is the per-channel ceiling; the actual LED current is set by the sense resistor value.
Package and board integration
Housed in a TSOT-23-6 (SOT-23-THIN) package, the TPS54201DDCT occupies roughly 3x3 mm of board area. The thin profile suits space-constrained LED modules in retrofit bulbs, linear strips, or compact IR illuminator boards. The SOT-23-THIN footprint is a standard 0.95 mm pitch — no fine-pitch assembly challenges. The ROHS3 compliance means no exemption-based restrictions across EU, UKCA, or China RoHS jurisdictions.
