Half-bridge driver for 5V synchronous buck stages
The Texas Instruments TPS51604DSGT is a half-bridge gate driver designed to drive two N-channel MOSFETs in a synchronous buck converter topology. It takes a 4.5V to 5.5V supply, so it is strictly a 5V-rail part — not a wide-VIN controller. The non-inverting input and synchronous channel type mean it expects a single PWM signal and generates the complementary low-side drive internally, with built-in dead-time management. Rise and fall times are 30ns and 8ns typical respectively — the asymmetric drive speeds are intentional: the fast 8ns fall on the low-side gate helps prevent shoot-through during the synchronous rectifier turn-off. The bootstrap pin supports a high-side voltage up to 34V, giving headroom for output rails well above the 5V input if the bootstrap diode is fed from a higher rail. Logic thresholds are set at 0.6V (VIL) and 2.65V (VIH), which means it interprets a 3.3V logic signal cleanly but may not reliably see a 1.8V signal as a logic high. The operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C covers industrial environments — motor drives, telecom rectifiers, and industrial power supplies — but not extended automotive under-hood conditions.
Package and thermal handling
Housed in an 8-WSON (2x2 mm) with exposed pad, this package is suited for dense power stages. The exposed pad is the primary thermal path.
