Step-down controller with wide 10-55V input range
The TPS40061PWP is a voltage-mode buck controller designed for step-down conversion from a 10V to 55V supply rail — that input range covers 12V, 24V, and 48V industrial buses without an external pre-regulator. Switching frequency runs up to 1MHz, letting you shrink the magnetics and output capacitor, though the practical upper end depends on the MOSFET gate charge and the thermal budget in the 16-HTSSOP PowerPAD package. It includes synchronous rectification drive, so the external low-side FET replaces the freewheeling diode — efficiency gains are meaningful at higher output currents, especially in a 48V-to-12V telecom brick.
Control features and duty cycle ceiling
Built-in current limit, enable pin, frequency control, and soft start give you the basic supervisory and sequencing hooks without an external supervisor IC. Maximum duty cycle is 98%, which means the high-side FET stays on nearly the whole cycle at low dropout — useful when the input rail sags close to the output target. Single output, positive configuration, with clock sync support so multiple TPS40061 units can share a common switching frequency and avoid beat-frequency noise on the bus.
Package, temperature grade, and compliance
Supplied in tube packaging — the standard 16-HTSSOP footprint mates with any solder reflow profile for that package family.
