Fault protection set — what the status flag and adjustable limit mean for the BOM
The TPS2559 integrates adjustable current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, reverse-current blocking, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The current-limit threshold is set with an external resistor, so you can tailor the trip point to the downstream load without changing the switch itself. The open-drain status flag asserts when the switch is in current-limit or thermal-shutdown — a direct input to a GPIO or a fault-logic gate.
Package and thermal: 10-VSON exposed pad
The part comes in a 10-VFDFN exposed-pad package (supplier device package 10-VSON, 3 mm x 3 mm). The 0.50 mm pitch on the signal pads is manageable with a standard two-layer board if the fan-out is planned, but a four-layer stack with a dedicated thermal plane under the pad is the safer choice for continuous 5.5 A operation at 125°C junction temperature.
