Its typical on-resistance of 73 mOhm sets the conduction loss at 2.5 A output — roughly 0.46 W dissipation before you factor in the package thermal resistance.
Adjustable current limit and fault protection
The switch integrates adjustable current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and UVLO. The current-limit threshold is set with an external resistor, giving the designer control over the trip point rather than a fixed factory trim. Output is an N-channel MOSFET with a non-inverting On/Off interface and a load-discharge feature that pulls the output low when disabled — useful for preventing floating VBUS in USB applications.
That means TI is not actively promoting it for new projects, though it remains available through existing distribution channels for ongoing production.
