3A USB high-side switch with adjustable current limit
The TPS2544RTER is a single-channel N-channel high-side USB power switch from Texas Instruments, delivering up to 3A continuous output from a 4.5V to 5.5V load supply. Typical on-resistance is 73mOhm, keeping conduction loss low enough that a 3A load drops only about 220mV across the switch — important for maintaining 5V regulation at the USB connector. It integrates adjustable current limiting, over-temperature protection, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO), so you can set the trip threshold with a single resistor and skip an external current-sense amplifier. The On/Off interface and non-inverting input simplify enable logic — no level shifting needed for a 3.3V or 5V GPIO.
At 3A, the 73mOhm typical Rds(on) produces about 0.66W of dissipation inside the 16-WQFN package. The adjustable current limit lets you set the threshold anywhere below 3A to protect the upstream regulator or connector. A 0.5% resistor sets the limit with ±10% accuracy typical; the UVLO threshold is fixed internally at about 4.0V rising, so the switch stays off until the 5V rail is stable.
