73 mOhm Rds(on) — what it means for a USB port
The TPS2541ARTER: The 73 mOhm typical Rds(on) at 5 V load means a voltage drop of about 180 mV at the 2.5 A maximum output — well inside the USB 2.0 VBUS tolerance budget for a downstream port. The switch integrates load discharge and a status flag, so the designer gets a power-good indicator without an external comparator.
Fault protection: adjustable current limit, over-temp, UVLO
The TPS2541ARTER protects the upstream supply and the downstream load with three independent fault monitors. The current limit is adjustable via an external resistor — the designer sets the trip point between the port's rated current and the switch's 2.5 A ceiling. Over-temperature shutdown and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) prevent the switch from operating outside its safe area. The non-inverting On/Off interface lets a GPIO or a dedicated enable signal control the output.
