The switch is slew-rate controlled to limit inrush current on hot-plug events, and it asserts a status flag when the output is in fault or the input voltage is below the UVLO threshold.
Protection suite — what survives a shorted port
The TPS2530DBVT integrates fixed current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, reverse-current blocking, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The current limit is fixed internally — no external resistor sets the trip point. Over-temperature protection cycles the switch off when the junction exceeds the thermal threshold, then re-enables after cooling. Reverse-current blocking prevents back-feed from the output to the input when VOUT exceeds VIN, which matters in dual-supply or battery-backup topologies.
Thermal and layout reality in SOT-23-5
The SOT-23-5 package (SC-74A, SOT-753) has no exposed thermal pad. At 500 mA continuous output with 97 mOhm Rds(on), the conduction loss is about 24 mW — negligible. But if the switch enters current limit (typically around 750 mA to 1.2 A), the voltage drop across the pass FET rises, and the power dissipation can exceed the package's ability to shed heat without adequate copper on the PCB.
