What this high-side switch does on your board
The TPS22981RGPR is a single-channel high-side load switch from Texas Instruments, rated for 500 mA continuous output and a load voltage from 3V to 19.8V. It's the part that turns a power rail on and off with a logic-level enable — think controlled power-up sequencing, load gating, or fault isolation on a mixed-voltage board. The adjustable current limit lets you set the trip point to match the downstream load, so a single design can serve multiple BOM variants without swapping the switch IC.
Protection set that saves the board from itself
Three fault protections are built in: adjustable current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and reverse-current blocking. If a downstream regulator shorts, the current limit clamps the rail; if the ambient hits 85°C and the die overheats, the switch latches off before the PCB traces cook. Reverse-current protection stops back-feed from a charged output capacitor when the input dips — a common failure in hot-swap and battery-backed designs.
