Slew-rate controlled turn-on — why it matters
The slew-rate controlled feature limits the inrush current when the switch turns on. Without it, a large capacitive load downstream would pull a current spike that could droop the upstream rail or trigger a supply supervisor. The switch also includes over-temperature protection that shuts it down if the die exceeds the safe junction temperature — a useful safeguard if the load goes short or ambient climbs above the -40 to 105 °C operating range.
On/Off control — no Vcc rail needed
The enable input is non-inverting and the part does not require a separate Vcc supply — the gate drive is generated internally from the input voltage. That simplifies the BOM: one GPIO from the MCU or a pull-up resistor is enough to toggle the load. The 1:1 input-to-output ratio means the switch is either fully on or fully off; no inrush-limiting ramp profile to configure.
Package and footprint — the thermal reality
For a 6 A continuous load, the datasheet layout recommendation — multiple vias to an inner-layer ground plane — is not optional. Without adequate copper, the switch will hit the over-temperature threshold at a fraction of the rated current.
