USB power switch with integrated fault protection
The Texas Instruments TPS2065CDBVR-2 is a single-channel, high-side N-channel MOSFET power switch designed for USB and general-purpose 5 V power distribution. It accepts a load voltage from 4.5 V to 5.5 V and delivers up to 1 A continuous output through a typical on-resistance of 96 mΩ, keeping the voltage drop and self-heating low in a compact SOT-23-5 footprint. The switch is controlled by a logic-level On/Off input (non-inverting) and does not require a separate Vcc supply — the gate drive is derived from the input rail.
Fault protection set for robust USB port
The TPS2065CDBVR-2 integrates fixed current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, reverse-current blocking, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The current limit is factory-trimmed and non-adjustable — it protects the host supply and cable from excessive load without external sense resistors. Over-temperature protection shuts off the switch if the junction exceeds the thermal threshold, and reverse-current blocking prevents back-feeding the input when Vout exceeds Vin. UVLO holds the switch off until the input rail rises above the UVLO threshold, ensuring clean startup.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The TPS2065CDBVR-2 carries an Active product status and is ROHS3 compliant.
