Protected high-side switch for USB and general-purpose loads
The TPS2051DR: It integrates a 80 mOhm typical N-channel MOSFET with fixed current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) to protect the supply and the load.
500 mA continuous output — sizing the load budget
The TPS2051DR delivers up to 500 mA continuous output current. At full load the 80 mOhm Rds(on) produces a 40 mV drop and about 20 mW of self-heating — well within the 8-SOIC package's thermal capability at 25°C ambient.
Fault protection reduces external BOM
Fixed current limiting (typically 0.75 A to 1.25 A trip range) and over-temperature shutdown eliminate the need for a separate PTC fuse or current-sense resistor. The open-drain Status Flag output asserts low when the switch is in current-limit or thermal-shutdown — a direct interrupt to the system controller. UVLO holds the switch off until the input bus reaches about 2.4 V, preventing brownout glitches.
The 8-SOIC package ships in Tape & Reel (TR), compatible with standard pick-and-place lines.
