Dual high-side switch with fault monitoring
The TPS2046BD is a dual-channel high-side power switch from Texas Instruments, designed for USB and general-purpose power distribution where each output needs independent on/off control and fault reporting. The input-to-output ratio is 1:2, meaning a single supply rail on the common input powers both channels, each switched independently by a logic-level On/Off pin with non-inverting input polarity.
Protection suite and status feedback
Integrated fault protection covers over-current (fixed current limit), over-temperature shutdown, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO) — the switch enters a safe state and asserts the Status Flag output when any of these conditions trip. The Status Flag is an open-drain output that pulls low during a fault; it can be wire-ORed across multiple switches or pulled up to a logic rail for interrupt-driven fault handling by the system controller. The fixed current-limit threshold is set internally — no external resistor or trim is needed — and the thermal shutdown cycle prevents damage from sustained overloads or short circuits on the output.
Housed in the 8-pin SOIC package (8-SOIC, 3.90 mm body width), the TPS2046BD fits standard surface-mount assembly lines with a 1.27 mm pitch footprint — the same package used by the wider TPS204x family, simplifying BOM consolidation.
Fully ROHS3 compliant, with no exemptions for lead, mercury, or other restricted substances under EU Directive 2011/65/EU, and the part carries standard TI compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, material declaration) available on request.
