Eight-channel rail-to-rail ESD clamp for HDMI ports
The TPD8S009DSMR is an eight-channel steering (rail-to-rail) diode array from Texas Instruments, purpose-built for ESD protection on HDMI interfaces. Each of the 8 unidirectional channels shunts transients to the supply rails, clamping at a 9V breakdown threshold while the signal lines ride on a 5.5V reverse standoff. The 25W peak pulse rating handles the energy from IEC 61000-4-2 level 4 strikes without latching or degradation.
HDMI signal integrity — why 8 channels and 9V breakdown matter
A standard HDMI port carries four differential pairs (three data, one clock) plus the DDC and CEC lines — eight signal lines total. The TPD8S009DSMR covers one full HDMI port with a single 15-SON package, saving board area versus discrete TVS diodes. The 9V breakdown sits well above the 3.3V HDMI signal swing, so the diode capacitance stays low and the eye diagram does not close. The 5.5V reverse standoff means the part does not conduct during normal 5V DDC bus operation.
