USB OTG protection with an internal switch
The Texas Instruments TPD6S300RUKR is a USB OTG protection IC built around an internal switch architecture. It protects the VBUS and ID lines on a USB On-The-Go port from overvoltage and overcurrent faults, clamping at 8 V while operating at a 3.3 V working voltage.
Clamping voltage and working voltage — the protection window
With a 3.3 V working voltage and an 8 V clamp, the TPD6S300RUKR is sized for USB VBUS lines where the nominal rail is 3.3 V and the protection threshold must trigger well below the downstream IC's absolute maximum (typically 5.5 V for 3.3 V logic). The 8 V clamp gives headroom for transients without nuisance triggering on normal bus ripple. For a USB OTG port that sources 3.3 V on VBUS, this part holds the line within the safe operating area of the attached transceiver.
The small 20-WQFN package (3x3 mm) mates with a standard land pattern; no package-change PCN is expected in the near term.
