Rail-to-rail clamp for USB 2.0 port protection
The Texas Instruments TPD4S012DRYR is a steering (rail-to-rail) TVS diode array designed to protect USB 2.0 ports from ESD and other transient overvoltage events. It integrates four unidirectional channels — one per data line — in a single 6-UFDFN package measuring 1.45 x 1.0 mm (6-SON). The reverse standoff voltage is 5.5 V typical, with a minimum breakdown of 6 V, matching the 5 V nominal supply rail of a USB VBUS line. Power line protection is enabled, meaning the clamp engages on the supply rail as well as the data lines.
60 W peak pulse — enough for IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4
Peak pulse power is rated at 60 W for an 8/20 µs waveform, with a peak pulse current of 3 A under the same condition. This is sufficient to meet IEC 61000-4-2 ESD immunity at Level 4 (8 kV contact, 15 kV air) without the clamp latching or degrading. The four-channel count matches the USB 2.0 interface: D+, D-, ID, and VBUS sense. A single TPD4S012DRYR covers the entire port, keeping the PCB layout tight and the parasitic capacitance low enough to avoid signal degradation on high-speed data lines.
Industrial temperature range and surface-mount footprint
The 6-UFDFN package is a 1.45 x 1.0 mm SON with a 0.50 mm pitch — a small footprint that fits under a USB connector or near the port edge. Mounting is surface-mount only; the package is leadless, so the PCB land pattern must match the SON outline. No through-hole variant exists.
No official successor or drop-in replacement has been announced. For BOM planning, the base product number is TPD4S012. The DRYR suffix indicates the reel and package variant — 6-UFDFN in Tape & Reel. Cut Tape is also available for prototyping.
